Product Description

Keep a close eye on your home around the clock. Receive rich notifications on your iPhone immediately when something is up in your home – and protect the privacy of your personal space in the process. Eve Cam is designed exclusively for Apple HomeKit Secure Video, built from the ground up to keep your data secure. No matter where you are, you get direct and fully encrypted access to Eve Cam thanks to your home hub (Apple TV or HomePod). Live images never reach the cloud, not even iCloud. Recordings are stored securely and fully encrypted in your iCloud. How does Eve Cam detect motion and trigger recordings?Eve Cam features a dedicated infrared motion sensor to trigger motion alerts, automations and recordings. If you have configured people / pet / vehicle recognition, any motion detected by the infrared motion sensor will cause the video footage to be sent to your Apple TV or HomePod to intelligently determine whether your recording criteria is met. Please note that while the infrared motion sensor can "see" in the dark and even when you have turned the video stream off, it can't see through glass. So if there's a glass door to your front porch or there's a window looking out to your patio or yard, Eve Cam won't detect any motion behind it and thus also not trigger notifications, automations or recordings.

The night vision works very well. Night vision in this case is actually an infrared sensitive camera and an infrared spectrum flashlight. The camera does not have an image intensifier tube like a night vision scope. No matter, though, because the Eve cam setup works great. NOTE: as the factory information states clearly, night vision does not work through glass so don’t ask. Read the information.Setup is as straightforward as it can be with this so-called “smart” home stuff. The camera has a pretty strong magnetic base if you can find something made of ferrous metal to stick it to. The power cord is long enough. Unit does not have batteries and must be plugged in all the time in order for it to work, just like your TV. The EVE software can be used to flip the image right side up if you want to hang this camera upside down from the ceiling or similar. Camera can swivel up and down, and sideways on it’s little plastic mounting stalk. The EVE camera is NOT made for outdoor use. The manufacturer website states this clearly and also states somewhere the min and max temperatures and humidity this cam can tolerate. It won’t handle below-freezing temperatures.Couple of drawbacks partly due to Apple failing to put enough thought into their Homekit products. First, the cam can use 5G but apple home kit really only works with 2G so what’s the point? Second, cam is called “HD” and I think I saw reference to 1080P somewhere but this is just not true. The resolution is probably about 320P if that. Third, only one person at a time can view the cam image, I think due to programming mistakes on Apple’s part. If you are viewing the cam image on your phone, another family member cannot view the cam image on his/her phone until you stop. They will get an error message about only one user at a time being allowed. For this price point, the Eve cam does work well. The motion sensing is very reliable and can be used to switch a security light on or other electrical “smart” device. The ability to record or not is nice too. This cam does not have a zoom or variable focus and you cannot tilt and pan remotely like you can on some fancy web cams. No matter, the Eve cam is pretty nice for basic home security. The night vision image almost seems clearer than the normal image.NOTE: I’ve heard recently that Eve might roll out an outdoor version and maybe you want to wait for that. This camera is hardware version 1.0, which is never a good thing as far as mistakes, defects, and bugs, but it still works quite well for something that is just barely past the test phase and into production. If you want a night vision security camera for indoors, or maybe sheltered outdoors if you live in a very mild and fairly dry climate, then you should feel confident about going ahead and buying this camera now instead of worrying about waiting for the next version. If you are looking for a camera to detect people, it works great. But if you are getting this camera to keep an eye on your pets, get the Logitech Circle View instead. I tested out both cameras for a week, side by side. The Logitech detected my cat WAY more reliably then the Eve cam. For example: Over one night, the Logitech recorded my cat’s activity 13 times, whereas the Eve cam only had 2 short recordings.Eve cam cons:1. Although the Eve cam was brighter, it’s picture was fuzzier, especially when you zoom in2. Bad night vision – the Eve cam was washed out and fuzzy, no wonder it didn’t detect motion as well!3. Unstable connection – Viewing the Eve cam took longer to load, and would make my Homekit app crash regularly4. Stayed in night vision far too long – The Eve cam went to night vision too early, around 6pm and stayed there until noon the next day5. Need to download the Eve app. I hoped a software update would fix some of the issues above, but it did not.I picked up this camera because it was on a discount. Even then I think its price should be reduced significantly. The good is that it works as a camera and motion detector, and supports all of HomeKit's features. I can't give it points off for HomeKit's limitations (which will hopefully be improved in the future), but those certainly exist. Its night vision mode is also pretty solid. However, the regular camera mode is fairly low quality. I can see tons of MPEG artifacts in the video making it very blurry. It also does not handle light very well: areas around windows will be washed out completely and not visible. And in low-light conditions the quality drops even further. Actually, with automatic switching to night vision it chooses night vision even when a room is fairly well lit.The quality reminds me of an average webcam from the 1990s. In fact I used this to replace a relatively modern webcam I had set up as a local IP camera, and took a significant quality hit in the process. And that webcam was in 720p. The only benefit this camera offers over the webcam is night vision and HomeKit's feature set (cloud-based recording, viewing from outside the home, and secure connectivity). I suppose it also offers a speaker, but it's similarly low quality and what comes out of it is barely audible most of the time. All in all, I'm going to continue using it until a good replacement comes around, but I don't think it's worth over $100. It would have been good if it was sold as a cheap HomeKit camera, though.Night vision is acceptable. Motion detection does not pick some times but overall is okay. The only frustration was at the installation as HomeKit did not want to recognize the camera. Here are the steps if you get "accessory not found":1- Set the phone which you use to connect the camera to 2.4G Wifi (not 5G).2- Power the camera on and then reset (press the pin for 10 seconds).3- While resetting go to HomeKit app and then add accessory.4- When prompted, do NOT scan the QR code. Instead, tap on "more options".5- Then, you will see the eve camera icon, hit the icon, and manually enter the code.6- if the camera icon is not shown, reset the camera again, and while resetting repeat 3-5.Updates after one month of use:- it goes offline on itself every two weeks or so and the only solution is to unplug the power and plug it back to reset.- the most critical issue is a few seconds breaks within the video recordings. If there is a 2 minutes incident the camera might cut a few seconds within the incident and I don’t know why. For example this camera was in my garage and once you open the garage door it works and starts recording. If I stay in the garage for 10 seconds doing something and then go back to the door and enter the house, the camera might cut these 10 seconds of activity and just record a part of it. This is a killing point to me as you might lose important details and so I ended up returning it.Hallo, ich hatte mich für diese EVE CAM wegen der vollen Apple HomeKit Integration entschieden. : )I was an original backer of Canary and what that company has turned into is a shambles. So I looked for a camera that had privacy built in with no rip off subscription model and Eve wins on this front. All your data and recorded footage is kept on your iCloud account nothing is sent to Eve.The set up is easy: download the Eve app, scan your camera QR code and 30 seconds later your up and running. You can then manage your camera in the Eve app or the Apple Home app.For one camera you need to be on the 200GB icloud package and for 2-5 cameras you need the 2TB iCloud one.The camera footage is clear and quick to switch to when you get a notification, generally about a 4 second delay from clicking on the notification to being able to watch the recorded footage. Also watching live has a delay of at most 0.5 seconds but normally it’s real time, no other IP camera is quicker. The microphone is clear and you can hear anything in the room the camera is in.The speaker is also loud and clear, however to use it you need to be in the Eve app.Best of all.....all of this functionality is free with the camera, there is no pay barrier or rip off subscription. Literally buy the camera(s) and your set. The only additional cost is the iCloud storage but I don’t know anyone that is not already on 200gb so that’s enough for one camera. All in all, top notch privacy and function, plus with IOS14 adding in area notification (you can set the area the camera will monitor) this camera has it all.*** UPDATE ***I've attempted to use this camera for around 1 year. This camera is utterly unreliable, it disconnects often, the camera ignores commands to turn off the night illumination and the 'recording' light. The image quality is very poor, very cheap construction. It should be avoided at all costs, and at literally any price.Eve customer support ignored my cries for help, Eve should be ashamed, as they patently didn't want to know in case they had to admit fault or issue a refund.** end update **Original reviewThere are many more cameras which are better, such as Aqara G2H (which is 1/3rd the price and also has a built in Apple-certified hub). This camera howerver is yet another example of a half-finished untested and basically unsupported Eve product rushed to market.I wouldn't bother to be honest now, as it's grossly overpriced and fairly unreliable as it just randomly drops off the network - despite it being in the same room as the wifi router and with a 'perfect' 5-bar signal.I suspect the built in software is half finished, and wasn't tested properly, as it can't handle the presence of any (unrelated) 5Ghz wifi network which is in range, and in the same room, which is really annoying. F.Y.I. The Eve light strip has the same 'unfinished' wifi features.Look at other products before this, especially as you could buy 3 Aqara G2Hs for this price, and that will not only give you 3 cameras which are better in EVERY way, but also 3 Apple Hubs which will distribute Apple HomeKit throughout your whole house. It took me about 3 days of faffing, where I finally got it going, having disabled my 5Ghz wifi network, and even then, I had to reset it 20 times, and also watch it drop out every day. Unreliable and grossly unusable. If you contact Eve, they'll just close ranks, stone-wall you and refer you to 'how to reset device' guides.A lot of dross like this is being sold off on Amazon to catch unsuspecting buyers, and I'm sure Eve will be working on version 2 of this camera - that *might* have been tested.Actual image quality is so-so when you do eventually get the camera to stay up a few days, and is patently due to a cheap plastic lens - that has not place on a camera in this price bracket.I bought this camera to use as a baby monitor which would neatly integrate with my iPhone and HomeKit. We have had issues with cheaper cameras in the past so decided buy a HomeKit enabled camera even though the price was around 7 times more expensive than the cheapo Victure camera we used before. The night mode video quality on the Eve is really poor considering the price, the £15 camera we had before had a much crisper picture. If anyone is considering this to use as a baby monitor, I would suggest looking elsewhere!
